MATT BAERCFO for Scouting in our region will speak today on Scouting in our Region. Would not be surprised to find out that our own super scout, JIM NOLIN had something to do with getting Matt here today.

DR. CID PINEDO, CEO from the Children’s Fund spoke to us during National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Great speaker. Bonnes Meres just had their annual luncheon this week in direct support of the Children’s Fund. Dr. Pinedo was a very animated speaker and related to us just what they do. In fact, they have directly helped over 80,000 children in the last year. Their three pillars: Support; Opportunity and Hope! Dr. Pinedo gave us several great quotes: “Access without support is not opportunity”; “I will not remain silent so you can remain comfortable!” and finally “What’s the use of education of you don’t have class?” He was a wonderfully animated speaker and we could see that, as he started his early life in the seminary, he would have made a fantastic preacher!

JASON ANDERSON, San Bernardino County District Attorney Elected to office June 5, 2018, he is the first new County District Attorney in 16 years replacing Mike Ramos. Jason also serves as a law professor at the University of La Verne College of Law and has served as a council member and planning commissioner for the City of Ontario. Many believe that his win is directly connected to the Colonies Partners LP case that ended in a settlement. As District Attorney he disagrees with Governor Gavin Newsom position on his change to California Death Penalty. Our County DA believes that the power should be in the people, who have directly defeated all ballot measures that tried to do away with the death penalty.

Breakfast and a Book will once again take place at Franklin Elementary School library on Colton Ave. Wednesday April 24th 7 AM to 7:50…great Rotary service, fun and very appreciative audience. You can let MIKE BOSMAN know or just show up!

Please save this Saturday morning Saturday, April 27, 2019 for working with fellow Rotarians and literally thousands of other volunteers that will help make Redlands beautiful. PAT MEYER is again arranging our time and will have us using our administrative skills to manage students from the three high schools for a work on Brookside Ave. As Bookside Ave. will be closed to traffic Saturday, PAT would like you to meet at the Pure Gold building and to approach from side streets. Do not miss it! Most of you will probably not know that in April we will celebrate National Volunteer Week! Be there or be square!

April Birthdays: CAL BOOTHBY; JACK BURK; MARTHA GREEN-GARRETT; DICK ROMO; TIM TIMMERMAN; CHRIS WAALKER AND LARRY WORMSER. (Seriously, that is all the 2018-2019 member’s booklet shows!)

We had student of the month last week and the two young ladies presented were ARCELLA CURIO of RHS who plans to attend Cal Lutheran and KELLY CHRISTIANA who will go to UCR. They were perfect examples of great Redlands students. The presentation was done by LEW NELSON, who once famously said “…the only problem for these students is that they will never know what it is like to get a B when you expected a D!”

Redlands Touch-A-Truck is June 8, 2019, 9 AM till 2:00 PM, University of Redlands Ted Runner Stadium parking lot…please be prepared to participate. Honk the horns, turn on the lights, talk to the Pros and … Touch a Truck! There will be a No Noise 90 minutes at the beginning and there will be no alcohol or Tabaco allowed. This will be an affordable event and although the tickets are $5 each, no one will be turned away.

RED WINE AND BREWS this year will be on May 11, 2019 from 4 to 7 in the evening at ESRI

More interesting is that this started as the Rotary Wine Tasting and developed into Red Wine and Blues and is now Red Wine and Brews…Please plan on attending or at least buying a couple of tickets. This is the major push by our club for scholarship funds. Really need more sponsors and baskets!

The Demotion Party is scheduled for June 22, 2019 and once again is at the home of VICTORIA MARSHALL in Redlands. Fortunately, Joe Horzen is planning on attending on the 21st, so everyone should have a great time, enjoy live music and great food and be able to miss out on his latest joke/pun! More info soon.

USHERING AT THE BOWL PLEASE LET MARVIN OR JAN HUDSON know if you will be available on June 28, 2019 to help out at the Redlands Bowl. This will be opening night and we really need your help. If there is not enough support by our members I believe they will give the opportunity to someone else!

Last Thursday in April! Sadly I am missing this month’s birthday quiz, but the very capable JIM NOLIN will be at the helm to distribute the Rotary spirit….and the fines…. Thanks JIM NOLIN! Please be sure to give Jim the same “support” and “positivity” you allow for me every week….. See ya next week!
