TODAY

DAN MIULI grew up in Chicago, IL and completed his medical training in Philadelphia, Pittsburg, and London. He became board certified in neurosurgery early in his career. Since 2001 he has served the underprivileged of the Inland Empire and internationally through undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education, healthcare, volunteerism, and service to the community.

LAST WEEK

JIM O’NEILL, Area 5 Trustee for the Redlands Unified School District, shared with the Club his perspective on board service and the challenges of serving as a member of the school board.

NEXT WEEK

It’s going to be a surprise! Doesn’t everyone love a surprise?

DISTRICT 5330 OUTING

Do you love the San Diego Padres as much as DON MCCUE? If so, you’ll want to join Palm Desert Rotarians on August 8 for a fun day of fellowship on a bus ride to San Diego for exciting Padres baseball against Arizona. Cost only $60 per person. Bus pickup at Palm Desert, Riverside and Temecula. If you’re interested and have not yet advised anyone, send email or text to PDG RICARDO “TACO” LORETTA at 858-344-4812 or dgtaco1819@gmail.com.

THE 2021 ROTARY INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION

Have you always wanted to attend the RI convention but are too cheap to fly to another country? Well, 2021 is your year! And just in case you were curious about ways to participate, according to the RI website: “There will be plenty of ways to engage with the Virtual Convention, including leadership-led meet and greets, cooking classes, Rotary trivia, DJ Dance Party, a virtual photo booth, and 5K walk as well as opportunities to learn more about Rotary Fellowships!” I don’t know about you, but this editor is very curious about the virtual “DJ Dance Party.”

DO YOU REMEMBER WHAT WE LOOK LIKE FROM THE SHOULDERS DOWN?

Well, next week is sure to be the test of memory as, for the first time in 13-ish months, you’ll actually get to see your fellow Rotarians IN THEIR ENTIRETY, instead of just what’s viewable on the screen! It will be a real “moment of truth” to see if the camera really did add 10 pounds, or if it was just the “pandemic 15.”

ABOUT TOWN

Congratulations to DAVID GAUTHIER and ANNE PRESTON (daughter of longtime Rotarian JOHN PRESTON, who was, coincidentally, the sponsor of RALPH FELLER)! The couple celebrated a very lovely engagement thanks to queen of the party VICTORIA MARSHALL.

Where is JOHN PATTERSON? Rumor has it he and Rotaryann MYRA are off in their new-ish-to-them 5000- foot RV partying up and down the coast of California…

THOUGHTS FROM THE PREZ

Well, you can’t win them all. Our Club and the Sunrise Club both managed to get 8 new or renewed members to the Friends of Smiley Library. Unfortunately, the percentage of participation from the Sunrise Club was far more than for our Club, due to the fact that we have about twice as many members as their Club. I appreciate those in our Club who joined me in supporting the Friends. It’s an important support group for our excellent and unique Library.

Contests like this one, the one supporting Family Services, and the effort to get people Covid tested played an important role in maintaining our service to the community at a very difficult time in the life of our Club. Thanks to all who participated!
