Marc Shaw shared some of his knowledge on the issue of human trafficking (slavery). Marc was part of a local team that travelled to Thailand to learn more about how they are trying to deal with this problem. He told us that 50% of trafficking victims are male and 70% know the offender. He also shared that while trafficking is often associated with sex, it can also involve using someone
for labor (slave labor). Trafficking is a serious problem in our region and it often begins by blackmailing the potential victim for an inappropriate photo they voluntarily sent by text. He said that prevention is best achieved through awareness of the problem and the tactics. Rotary has a trailer that is dedicated to human trafficking awareness and prevention. The trailer will be at this year's Touch-a-Truck. Let’s all take some time to go through the trailer and encourage others to do the same.
