Dr. Craig S. Turley, Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer, discussed the history and programs of The Blessing Center, Joseph’s Storehouse and other local initiatives he has nurtured in the last decades to serve those in need. Joseph’s Storehouse collects and distributes food to anyone in need and who asks for their help. Since its inception, an estimated $14MM worth of “farm food” and other nutritional essentials have been distributed by Joseph’s Storehouse. The Blessings Center provides safe, stable, and secure housing for mothers and children who are homeless or are in undesirable domestic situations. Once housed, the mothers are offered a multitude of programs to give them job skills and other mechanisms that will assist them in the present and future, including counseling and training for adults and academic and recreational activities for the children. The overarching goal is to help these moms and their kids start a new life so that they can secure their own place to live. Dr. Turley said that they have an 85% success rate!
The Blessing Center is a faith-based charitable organization that depends on donations from private and corporate citizens as well as government grants. They have begun work on an expansion that will more than double the resident capacity to 85 beds at their Judson Avenue location.
