TODAY

We are having a special presentation for Veterans Day where we will honor all the club members who are veterans, plus a few special guests. DAVE MAUPIN is presenting. It will also be the first Rising Stars presentation of the school year.

LAST WEEK

Our own JIM HOLMES delivered a fascinating update about Redlands Community Hospital. The Hospital’s mission is “to promote an environment where members of our community can receive high quality care and service so they can be restored to good health.” Did you know that people living in Redlands only account for about 22.6% of discharges, with Yucaipa coming in at 18.9%? Last year alone, RCH provided nearly $54 million dollars in unreimbursed care for people in our area.

NEXT WEEK

LAUREN MAUCERE, Curriculum & Outreach Supervisor at the California School for the Deaf, Riverside, will be on hand to share her work. According to the school’s website, “Students at California School for the Deaf are engaged in a positive environment where ASL and English are valued, cultures are embraced, learning is relevant, and self-worth is uplifted. In collaboration with families and school communities, Southern California students prepare for college and careers through academic rigor, innovative technology, and extracurricular opportunities.”

VETERANS DAY PARADE

Join fellow Rotarians in honoring our nations veterans in the 2024 Veterans Day Parade. The parade starts at Redlands Blvd and Citrus Ave at 9am and finishes at Jennie Davis Park at approximately 10:15am. A ceremony by American Legion Post 106 will follow at 10:30am. Included will be Aircraft flyovers, a live band, a beer garden, a performance by the Lindy Sisters, a Kid Zone, and a Military Vehicle display.

THE ROTARY CALENDAR

Did you know that November is “Rotary Foundation Month”? Each year, Rotary International highlights November as Rotary Foundation Month to emphasize the importance of and need for Rotarian support of The Rotary Foundation. Contributions from Rotarians around the world go to the Foundation’s Annual Programs Fund, which provides grants and awards through Foundation programs; and the Permanent Fund, an endowment from which only the earnings are spent in support of Foundation programs, ensuring the long-term viability of the Foundation. Do you contribute regularly to the Rotary Foundation?

ABOUT TOWN

Be sure to ask JOHN TINCHER, CHRIS ALVAREZ, KRISTA NEWKIRK, LARRY BURGESS, and SHELLI STOCKTON about their exciting vinous experience last weekend…remember, in vino veritas.

ALL POLITICS ARE LOCAL

Congrats to PHIL DOOLITTLE and MARC SHAW on their wins (as of results at 8am on 11/6) as Redlands Treasurer and Council member, respectively! That brings the number of local elected officials in our Club up to three.

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

Fellow Rotarians, as we approach Veterans Day, I’m reminded of the profound connection between service above self—our Rotary motto—and the selfless dedication of our veterans. This Thursday, let’s take a moment to honor those among us who have served, including some of our own members. Their commitment to our country mirrors our commitment to community, and we’re privileged to continue serving alongside them in Redlands.
