TODAY
Don’t miss it! Always informative and filled with important updates from our Redlands Police Department, Chief RACHEL TOLBER. RACHEL is our dedicated public servant and always communicates news about the state of policing in our local community, discussing trends and solutions, as well as crime statistics. Let’s learn what is new in our department.
LAST WEEK
RACHAEL GUSTUSON spoke about her new, dual duty as Editor of the Yucaipa News Mirror as well as our local Redlands Community News. She spoke about her background in newspaper and her journey into the editor role. She explained that under the new ownership RCN has experienced a consolidation of services to reduce operational costs. This means the Redlands office is closed, and operations flow out of the Yucaipa office. RACHAEL is the contact for all news tips and press releases. Her email is prominently noted in the weekly newspaper. After the initial letting-go of many reporters and staff, the paper’s management team has recognized the need to resume coverage of local sports including youth and high school athletics. They are actively seeking a reporter to fill that duty. RACHAEL’S local roots give her motivation to keep providing solid, local-based news stories, however, in the new system, full local control of story placement is no more. As editor, RACHAEL may prioritize articles, but there is no guarantee of placement or space allocated as all pagination and layout design is done out of the area. She noted that there will be a big push to increase on-line readership and engagement, but that subscriptions will still be available. Sadly, we all learned that obituaries are now moved to paid advertising status. I, for one, will miss the previous commitment to publishing obituaries at no fee to the family. It was a thoughtful perk of being a Redlands citizen as all other papers charge, and charge handsomely, for obits.
NEXT WEEK
Craft talk Thursday! We look forward to another interview format facilitated by JULIE MICHAELS. Come and learn some insider info on two of our newer members ADEKUNLE OJO and ANITA WEST. Always a good time!

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
As we pass the first day of fall, it’s a good reminder that change is always constant, even if the weather in Redlands didn’t get the memo! Just as the seasons kinda shift, our club is also always evolving, growing, and adapting to new challenges and new opportunities. While we wait for the temperatures to cool down, I’m looking back on the warmth that our Rotary family brings to the community. Whether it’s through our service projects, the friendships we build, or the support we give each other, the spirit of Rotary is alive and well. But there’s always more work to be done, more ways to serve, and more lives to touch. Let’s continue to embrace the spirit of Rotary, knowing that our efforts no matter how big or small are making a difference. Together, we’ll keep pushing forward and create lasting change in our community.
