TODAY

CHRISTOPHER BOATMAN
REDLANDS ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER

CHRISTOPHER is going to talk to us about the homeless situation in Redlands. This might include some projects like the “Homeless Solution” created by the City Council in April 2022 and other projects in the city. Don’t forget, our city received a grant in the amount of $30 million for “Project Home Key.”

A little bit about CHRISTOPHER is that he earned a BA in Business and History from UCR (2004), and an MPA(2010) from California State University, San Bernardino. After his undergraduate work he started a company called QuickList (2004), then moved to ESRI in 2005 as a Trade Show Coordinator. In 2007 CHRIS began his employment with the City of Redlands as an Associate Planner; in 2012 moved up to Senior Project Manager; in 2014 became Assistant Director of the Quality-of-life Department. In 2015 CHRISTOPHER was promoted to Facilities and Community Services Director and Municipal Utilities and Engineering Interim Director. December 2021 MR. BOATMAN achieved the rank of Assistant City Manager. CHRIS has been with the City of Redlands for 16 years and I am sure has many stories to tell.

HOW TO JOIN MEETINGS ON ZOOM:

We would love to see everyone in person at Rotary Club of Redlands, but if that is not possible, the following Zoom option is available by going to:

LAST WEEK

Our SPOKE crack reporter, NATHAN GONZALES, filled in for me last week as I was stuck behind a flipped over truck on the 91 freeway facing the wrong direction. NATHAN reports last week’s visit “was really interesting – lunch was prepared and served by students in the Culinary Arts program at San Bernardino Valley College. We were greeted by Chancellor DIANA RODRIGUEZ, Executive Vice Chancellor JOSE TORRES, and Valley College President LINDA FONTANILLA, each of whom made brief presentations about the college district and Valley. Then we walked over to KVCR with Executive Director CONNIE LEYVA, and were treated to tours of both the radio and television studios by LILLIAN VASQUEZ and DAVID FLEMING.” Sounds like a great time.

NEXT WEEK

4 WAY SPEECH COMPETITION

It has been a couple of years since we have had the honor of our local school students competing on the 4 way test. We need to have a great turnout and show our support for these young adults.

ROTARY EVENTS

We still have seats available for the WINEMAKER DINNER. Remember it is Thursday, March 23 at the Burrage Mansion. Click here for more info
We still need underwriters.

REDLANDS AREA SERVICE DAY is Saturday April 29. There have been sign up sheets circulated. I am sure we will have more information to come.

RED WINE AND BREWS IS BACK!!! May 13 at 6:00pm. We will be looking for wine donations ($50 Bottles). We will also be looking for auction items. So think about that vacation home you
have in Tuscany. Share the wealth.

If anyone has any other announcements they would like to make, please let me know. You are stuck with me this whole month. So if you have something to share (or some gossip so share) email me at abeechko@brownwhitelaw.com.

ITEMS TO CONTEMPLATE

Well, it has been a wet winter. So I though I would start my inaugural edition with some rain jokes. So here are some for your reading pleasure.

  1. What is a king’s favorite kind of precipitation? Hail!
  2. What do books wear on a wet and rainy day? Rain quotes.
  3. When does it rain money? When there is “change” in the weather.
  4. What’s all wet and likes to shake? An earthquake on a rainy day.
  5. Why does Snoop Dog need an umbrella? Fo’ Drizzle.
  6. What do you call it when it rains ducks and geese? Foul (fowl) weather.
  7. What did one raindrop say to the other? “Two’s company; three’s a cloud.”
  8. Why did the man use ketchup in the rain? Because it was raining cats and hot dogs.
  9. What did the evaporating raindrop say? “I’m going to pieces.”
  10. Why do you see cows lying down in the rain? To keep each udder dry.
I got 50 more but I will save those for later.

PRESIDENT’S COLUMN

“Spring is nature’s way of saying ‘Let’s party!’” – Robin Williams

Speaking of springtime parties, I’ll host us all! We are planning our Spring Social on Friday, April 14th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This will be a cocktail hour with some of your favorite Rotarians. (I’ll be there too.) Let’s cross our fingers that it will not rain – maybe nature will get that out of her system by then. Appetizers will be served. I hope to see you and your spouses and
significants.
